A Chinese Pastor's Dream

Dear Pastor Gene,

When I was a child, I had a dream: to drive a big truck and spread the Gospel to the poor areas.  Then I would load the truck with food and clothing and, of course, Bibles.  That way, when I share the Gospel with the people, I can provide for their basic sustenance needs as well.

I praise the Lord for when you came to Shenyang many years ago.  You helped me to put my childhood dream into reality. We traveled together to the poor areas and we delivered thousands of brand new Bibles. I will never forget that experience…..Not only in Christ did my dream come true, but it was also done through your visit.  I respect you deeply.   I compare you to Apostle Paul and I see myself as Timothy because Paul is the father in faith for Timothy.

Every Sunday when I preach, I know in my heart that you are praying for me and I also pray for your Sunday preaching. I hear from other Chinese pastors who have visited your office, and they tell me that you have my family picture on your bookshelf.  That made me feel so honored and grateful to learn this. I thank God that you remembered this weak servant of the Lord who lives so far away from you.

Please continue to pray for me as I’m heading to a remote and very far place to preach the Gospel.  My family is worried about me, but I trust our powerful God is and will be with me and it was Him who gave me life. Without His love, I wouldn’t be in existence. When I was making the decision as to whether to stay in my comfort zone or go far away to serve the Lord; I was reading what Jesus had taught us: “if anyone comes to me, and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever doesn’t carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14:26-27 NASB.

Jesus also said:” If you want to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

Paul wrote in Acts 20: 22-24(NASB):” And now, behold, bound in Spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me. But I don’t consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I receive from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the Gospel of the Grace of God.”

My heart and my love are in Jesus, in Paul, and also in you.  Please pray for me so I never drift away from my convictions.   Let my dream be in Jesus; let my dream be in faith; hope and love!

I have wanted to give you a special gift for a long time – I thought about it around Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas, but didn’t do so until now.  Before I head to another province to share the Gospel at this significant time of my life,  I present as my gift my dream to you.  May God’s love and grace be with you always!!

Blessings to you and your family!

Your daughter in faith,
Hope
